It makes me kind of sad because this feature was added to promote Twitter’s third party apps, back when twitter was a much better platform and third party development was core to their growth.
It was also an indicator of whether or not a tweet was made by a person or a brand, as brands would use tools like Hootsuite and people would use mobile clients or SMS.
