One of the main things I hear women expect of men in society is for them to be aware of basic body language out in public so women don’t feel in danger. I totally get this and am all for it.
However, for most women in the US who may not have access to resources at a young age for self protection, there really isn’t anyone discussing the importance of women having self protection resources and being accountable/being proactive when it comes to seeking basic self protection even as they get older.
Self protection should be taught in schools for everyone and replace physical education. Especially, since the crime rates in a lot of US cities are going up. Politicians seem to not be holding their end of the deal in most cases. This means more women who still depend on public transport, walking, etc are risking themselves a lot more just for going to work, basic errands, etc in shittier public environments.
How many of us would’ve benefited from basic physical self protection when our lives have been on the line? Are there any larger resources/campaigns available I’m just not aware of?
