That’s more significant than most people realize. We try to generalize so much because most us don’t understand the intricacies of this economy we have developed. When someone asks me what I do I say I’m in IT, but I could not manage AWS’ back end to save my life. Nor could I build an iPhone. But I know how to download an app and connect it to a DB loaded on AWS. All are important skills it’s just we don’t all cross over.
Which is what gets me angry when some idiot financial reporter asks for a soundbite from a random executive that may or may not understand the intricacies of another business even though both companies are “in the computer business”.
