Screenshots should be unified

I take a lot of screenshots. I particularly grab a lot of stills from YouTube videos. This is a problem because I watch YouTube on four different devices. But they’re all within the Apple ecosystem, so what gives?

Syncing and sorting is fine within iOS, my iPhone and iPad screenshots both show up in my Photos, of course. But on the Mac, they go to my desktop, which I then file into a finder folder. I store that folder in my iCloud Drive, which is meticulously organized by research topic.

A lot of my video consumption and “research” is done on my Apple TV, because of course. But unfortunately, so many potential screenshots are wasted since there’s no screenshot button on the Apple TV remote. How cool would that be if there was?! The Nintendo Switch has one, obviously it’s possible.

Apple, please add a screenshot button to the next remote, and send that grab immediately to either the Photos app, or to a folder in my iCloud. I think the folder route would be better, because I prefer my Photos app to consist specifically of pictures I take with my camera(s).

I wish the grabs from iOS and MacOS could all be saved to a folder in iCloud Drive as well. And I’d especially like them to have same the MacOS naming convention, since they’re not like my IMG_XXX images at all. They’re screenshots.

Until then, I’m awkwardly exporting images, renaming them, re-opening YouTube on another device, searching through my history, going back and grabbing stills, wasting time or simply losing those images. First world problems, sure, but it seems like a clear inconsistency in the ecosystem.
