I have encountered this in the security side of my work.
One of the vendors at work sent out a blog post with a tutorial on backing up databases regularly. They suggested a specific application+service.
It was not one I had heard of so I investigated it. My days in compliance analysis have made me a little suspicious, so when I investigate potential vendors I tend to include researching corporate officers, articles of incorporation, and so on.
Turns out this database software was Russian. In the current geopolitical climate, that just won’t do.
