[Request] How is reporting on illegally obtained Apple-insider information legal?

[request]-how-is-reporting-on-illegally-obtained-apple-insider-information-legal?

Wondering if any lawyers can help break this down for me. When I read Gurman and others’ blog posts, they expose orders of magnitudes more details than the company is willing to offer themselves— details that are not public, which may very easily materially affect the stock price, and which can easily give away sensitive IP. More than likely these details were obtained illegally (probably from someone breaking an NDA).

Can someone break down specifically why this sort of reporting is legal? Seems like it unambiguously is, but I just can’t figure out how. Is it just simply “freedom of speech”?

Thanks in advance to any helpful input!
