Rape Culture and the fashion world

I’m sure we are all very aware about the current controversy regarding Balenciaga, recently Gucci came under fire too when the Gucci family sex abuse story came out and the fact that they are owned by the same company Kering.

For a while there was intense pushback against the metoo movement and women were being gaslit by men about rape culture. Balenciaga is the clearest and loudest example of a rape culture and I’m so happy it is being called out, but I can help but wonder why men weren’t as eager to tear down rape culture to begin with? It’s always been a prevalent and evil force in our society and women have always been vocal about it, for the longest time we would be told we were lying or to be quiet, but suddenly men have changed their tune.

I hope Balenciaga burns, but I also worry that we will just go back to our old ways and nothing will actually change long term.
