The International Labour Organization (ILO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of National Project Officer in Basrah, Iraq. The duration of this post is 12 months.

The mission of the ILO is to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection and strengthen dialogue on work-related issues.

Key Job Responsibilities

The National Project Officer will perform the following functions:

  • Coordinate the implementation of project activities in close collaboration with the DWT for the Arab states, project partners, international and national experts, Project Manager and ILO constituents.
  • Monitor the progress of the project activities by reviewing, verifying and analysing workplans, progress reports, final reports and other data for clarity, consistency and completeness.
  • Initiate, plan and undertake missions to monitor, assess and report on project implementation and propose corrective action. Follow-up on delayed documents, clarify information, and answer questions about clearance and processing requirements to support successful completion of agreed activities.
  • Assist with the planning and organization of Capacity Building activities for project partners.
  • Ensure financial and administrative tasks related to the project are conducted according to ILO rules and procedures. Responsible for the effective administrative management of the office, including guidance and supervision of the personnel assigned to the project.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • First level university degree in the field of law, economics, social sciences, public administration, labour administration or other related field.
  • Minimum 3 year’s of professional work experience in programme and/or project implementation for labour, economic or social development.
  • Proven experience, preferably with a UN agency, with sound knowledge and experience in all aspects of project cycle, i.e., design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Excellent command of English and Arabic.
