Context: My manager (a man) was upset because one of our clients refused to go on with an idea he had because of its misogynistic and sexist undertone (Ironic fact: It’s an anti-violence against women campaign).
With poise, I told him that I understood why the client (a woman) did not like it, because it’s offensive, and not helpful if we’re trying to send an anti-violence message. So, he got so mad, and announced to everyone that now I’ll be the one in charge of this (very important) idea since I believe my judgement is “better” than his. He’s trying to ridicule me because it seems like he doesn’t think I’m capable…. because I’M A WOMAN, but what he doesn’t know is that I’m also a woman who has been abused before, and this is a campaign dedicated to women who are victims of violence. LOL.
At first, I was angry because WTH I don’t want to take charge of his assignment, but now, I want to kick ass. Imagine that… a woman who survived abuse is now in charge of a campaign against gender-based violence. That’d be pretty cool for my past abusers to see, for my boss to see, for everyone, actually.
But I don’t know where to begin… I just know that maybe this is a huge opportunity I should take advantage of.
