I’m massively annoyed by the lack of accountability. After an in-app purchase didn’t work, the vendor recommended that I’d get in touch with Apple for a refund. Despite providing evidence of the vendor themself asking me to do it, Apple refused the refund. I appealed, same result.
You’re not getting a reason as to why they refuse the refund. You also don’t get to state your case. It’s complete bs.
I contacted my bank, who had their legal department review the case. They concluded that I was entitled to a chargeback. They then contacted my card provider, who again had their legal department review the case and conclude that Apple was wrong in withholding the refund.
Apple then blocked my app store account without telling me, resulting in me not being able to update apps and close security vulnerabilities. After I got in touch with Apple support, they re-enabled my account.
My card, however, remains blocked; I can’t use it anymore in the App Store or with Apple Pay. Apple support isn’t interested in the case. When I raise this issue in the community the posts get removed.
My learnings from this case:
-
Avoid Apple in-app purchases wherever possible because Apple doesn’t like accountability
-
Use a throw-away card that I don’t use anywhere else on Apple so that it quickly can be replaced.
