Just one dude wondering what women – particularly those who consider themselves feminists – feel about Mother’s Day cards and the general vibe of the occasion? Should it not be more about celebrating mothers, motherhood and women and less about selling cards, flowers and chocolate?

As the title says: anybody agree that Mother’s Day is just a rather trite, overly commercial affair? No disrespect to any woman who doesn’t share that view! It’s a long-held belief of mine that Mother’s Day cards should be about women – as role models, caretakers, protectors and inspirations, such as cards including powerful and inspiring quotes on motherhood from influential women, words you, regardless of your gender, might relate to in your relationship with your own mother instead of the somewhat predictable wording and imagery of the cards on offer.

Not saying anyone should quit giving their Mum flowers and chocolate of course, that would be criminal!
