World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of IT Specialist, Web Technologies and Methodologies in Washington, D.C, United States. The duration of this post is 21 year.

The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system.

Key Job Responsibilities

The IT Specialist, Web Technologies and Methodologies will perform the following functions:

  • Coordinate the configuration and management and provide technical support for the design and implementation of the Organization’s web Platform and Content Management System (CMS) including governance, platform optimization, vulnerabilities mitigation and proper documentation;
  • Develop and sustain PAHO’s Internet presence and recommend solutions for applications, potential improvements and enhancement of web pages through the Internet and mobile platforms; participate in the identification, testing and selection of technical applications and infrastructure as needed;
  • Provide technical support and coordinate the configuration and management of the web platform, applications and solutions; promote methodologies and tools that support the coordination between development and operations like DevOps, in coordination with other web platforms in PAHO;
  • Ensure the health and continuity of PAHO’s web platform and CMS including availability, reliability, performance, monitoring, licensing and cost management;
  • Manage and plan for information security to be prioritized, and plan for disasters recovery and reaction to security situations involving the web platforms;
  • Coordinate and provide technical guidance on web activities and systems, by identifying users’ needs and requirements and mobilizing existing technology to meet their criteria considering the latest industry standards and best practices;

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, systems engineering, engineering, mathematics or any other area related to the functions of the post, from a recognized university.
  • 7 year’s of combined national and international experience related to the planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of web technologies, infrastructure, and methodologies.
  • Experience should include working with web platforms and content management systems.
  • Experience managing infrastructure for Joomla/WordPress, Apache/PHP in Windows would be an asset.
  • Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with working knowledge of the other language.
  • Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese would be an asset.
