Is there a place for television-like programming (i.e. not on-demand like Netflix) in the future and if so, how do you see this working?

To elaborate a bit more – I get the appeal of being able to choose what you watch and when, but is there still a place for a type of live-streaming programming that is similar to what I grew up with on cable television? How does something like Saturday Night Live survive the internet era? Bonus points if this is a thing I am oblivious to and you can direct me to it!
