I know it sounds cliche, but finding a hobby and finding a community that enjoys the same. In every hobby community you can find people that share similar interests that can easily turn into friendships. This was the advice I was given after I left the army and started my new life in a new city with no friends and it has gifted me with connections that I didn’t know could exist.
