You have to insert your finger first and feel your cervix. The cervix is the small opening at the top of the vaginal canal. This is the place where your menstrual blood flows out of the uterus. Hence, the cervix is also called “ the neck of the uterus.”

The basic idea behind inserting the finger is to help you determine where your cervix sits. That in turn measures the cervix height, if it is low, medium, or high. Thus, to measure which cup is good for you, just follow the simple “knuckle rule”.

  • Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before inserting the finger into the vagina.

  • Insert your index finger into the vagina to measure the cervix ( with your nails cut off!).

  • The moment you come across a bit of soft tissue, stop there as that is the cervix.

  • If your first knuckle touches the cervix, you have a low cervix. Go for a small cup.

  • But if it touches the second knuckle, you need a medium cup.

  • And if your third knuckle moves beyond that, you will need a larger cup.
