I ordered a new macbook pro for my company. It was to be delivered to my house by postmates/uber within a few hours. I received a text saying get ready for your delivery. Then a text saying your delivery is arriving. A guy came to my door w/ an apple bag, showing my name and address and order #, and my new computer was taped into the bag. He asked me if my name was ? I said yes. He had me sign for the delivery. I took the bag and shut my door. I received a text saying my order was delivered. A few minutes later, he rang my door again. I don’t know why I answered. But I answered, and he said he had delivered to the wrong address and he must take my computer back from me, please hand it over. WTF? I said no, this is my computer, I paid for it, I signed for it, I have all the payment and delivery receipts. He kept insisting and implying that I was a thief. I got my husband involved. My husband tried showing the guy the bag proving this is the correct address and he needs to leave. The guy kept threatening saying he’s going to ask one more time then he will call the cops. I told him to call the cops then, and shut the door.
He called the cops, I called the cops, they came, were super bored w/ the whole thing, it was clear the delivery guy was in the wrong, they showed him the actual bag he gave me that the computer was in, that listed my name and address and order#, proving he was at the right address. The cops said the guy then apologized to them and drove away.
But I was left shaking and nerves a mess. So I called apple to let them know what happened w/ their delivery. The lady on the phone was horrified and apologetic, said that should never have happened, told me I did everything right disengaging and contacting police, that the guy handled it wrong. She said he is not law enforcement so if he thought he made a mistake he had no authority to go demand my computer back from me, he should have contacted apple and they would have easily and quickly confirmed that he delivered to the correct address.
So going forward I am going to just pick up my orders myself rather than trust Uber drivers, and highly recommend for others whenever you can.
