Apple’s Mixed-Reality Headset and WWDC Are a Perfect Match

Beyond perfecting the advanced technologies in the product, Apple is up against another issue with its headset: selling into a market that has been disappointed and confused by efforts from competitors.

Over the last several months, Meta Platforms Inc. has described the mixed-reality market as one that is built around a metaverse, virtual avatars and all-day experiences inside of virtual reality. That approach hasn’t taken off and the number of people who stick to their Meta headsets after six months has reportedly dwindled.

Many consumers have said they don’t want to be isolated inside of a virtual environment and many are critical of the idea that the metaverse is the next big thing. An Apple marketing executive has even said he’ll never use the term metaverse. That means Apple will need a safer venue to debut its device, and you’re not going to find a more pro-Apple crowd than the one that shows up at WWDC.

(Emphasis mine) Perhaps a bit worrying?
