Would it sound weird if I told a guy that I’m interested in getting to know him?

So, I have this guy at work, caught my attention when I first saw him, and got a chance to have a small talk with him. We are at the greeting bases.

Here’s the thing though, he works in the same building but different department and there’s basically no contact between the work he does and my work, my work buddies do, and they took my with them a couple of times so I can get a chance to speak with him.

Now, I don’t know if he’s interested in anyone at all, and I definitely prefer a straightforward approach, I never liked playing games and I already feel awkward whenever I visited with my work buddy.

Keep in mind that we both live foreign country and come from the same culture, so this checks a lot of things in my list and physically he looks ok, all is left is for me to get to learn more about his personality.

So, my question is, would it sound weird or creepy or awkward if I just go to him and invite him for a coffee because I’d like to know him more? That is, of course, after making sure that he has no one in his life.
