Would you watch a movie where a billionaire has to go an entire year on their lowest paid employees salary, without access to any other resources than that of the employee? What do you think would happen?

No. The problem with that is the same as with the “let’s put a thin person in a fat suit” or “let’s put a white guy in blackface” experiments. Knowing you can change back whenever you want, or that it’s only gonna be a year, inherently changes the experience from actually being poor, fat, black, whatever.
