Why ‘A’ is for apple ?

It’s the easiest point of reference as apples are common.

Granted I learned that A is for Alpha (a lot of military in my family), so kids were saying A as in apple, B as in boy, & my ass was rattling off Alpha Bravo Charlie Delta Echo (so on, & so forth)
