Messy is one thing. Slob kind of strongly implies actually dirty or unhygienic, and egregiously lazy about cleaning. Leaving some papers around doesn’t make you a slob. Not washing your clothes or dishes or leaving dog shit on your floor does.
I’m not into shaming people, but that is something I’d not want in a partner and I think it’s fine to politely express that.
