What’s the most reliable car to buy a teenager who just got their license?

Budget? Use conditions (do you get a lot of snow, things like that). Any makes to avoid because of social issues (ie, not wanting to be the family that buys their kid a “fancy” car)?

Edit: Also, when it comes to cars for teens, as one parent to another, I strongly suggest you consider safety ratings far more than reliability. Teens crash cars. Buy them one they can walk away from if something happens.
