For me, it’s in Saving Private Ryan. When the team is camping in that church, Riben tells the others how his mom always had to work late into the night meaning he had to care for himself from a very early age. The moment that always gets me is when he says “Often when she came home late, she looked into my room to see if I was sleeping. And I pretended to be. She’d quietly ask me if I was still awake and I just ignored her. I didn’t want to talk. She just wanted to know how my day was, ask me how I am. That’s all”.
