What movie did you rewatch as an adult and have a way different perspective on than when you saw it as a kid?

Hook

Film opens. Peter has a job that supports the privileged lifestyle for his family of four. Jack plays little league. Maggie gets the lead in the school play. They’re enjoying a Christmas vacation to London. But are they grateful for any of his support? Nope.

Jack is behaving dangerously on a plane and refuses to stop when asked multiple times. Then he taunts his dad about his phobia of flying, essentially bullying him. And draws a picture of everyone else besides Peter surviving a plane crash. Later, Moira throws his phone out the window in the middle of an important call and demands that he “put his family first”.

Uh, excuse me, does having a job to put food on the table for the family not qualify as putting the family first? Peter grew up an orphan. If the life he’s providing isn’t good enough for them, perhaps they’d prefer if he leaves them at the London orphanage and goes back to the US alone.

And at the end of the movie, he gets conquered by these villains. The movie acts as if he’s the one that needed to learn a lesson. Sorry, that’s all backwards.
