To ruin a relationship doesn’t take much. I’ve watched it a million times.
Like that of a recipe, a few simple ingredients is all it takes.
Distance. Lack of trust. Contempt. Substance abuse. And finally, control.
Eventually your spouse figures out there is more to life than having a loveless marriage.
They don’t want a partner that isn’t trustworthy; it’s just too much work. Living with the idea that your partner may be lying to your face is just too much for the mind to handle day in and day out.
They don’t want to be in a relationship with someone that despises them. After all, who would want that?
Watching someone throw their life away to addiction is just too painful. The relationship is beholden to your recovery; patience wears.
And last but not least, no one, not one person, likes being treated as a child. To be told what to do and when. That you are more superior, and in your mind, they are less-than. It gets old. And people tire.
People eventually wake up. Some sooner than others; but they always do.
