I deliver pizzas for a major Pizza chain. I won’t say which one, but our signature color is red and we have the word Pizza in our name.
Something you should know about delivery drivers? We work for tips. We only get paid half of minimum wage, like a waiter, and that delivery charge you see on your receipt? We don’t get that. We don’t get any of that. That’s the fee that the company charges you to offset the cost of not having us in the store washing dishes and mopping floors, and to cover the cost of insurance. Not our insurance. No if we get into a wreck while delivering your pizza, we have to pay for that with our own insurance. The insurance portion of the delivery fee is in case we get into a wreck or get mugged or salted or murdered while delivering your pizza, and we turn around and either us or are survivors try to sue the company, they use that insurance to defend themselves.
.
So the next time a pizza delivery driver knocks on your door? Give him a tip. Or at the very least let him pet your dog. The job is stressful enough with long hours and low pay. We need everything we can get.
