What food (or foods) are the best bait for catching houseflies?

This works for fruit flies so I’m not sure if it would work for regular flies but it very well might. I put out a bowl and mix up some beer, dish detergent, and a small bit of bleach, usually a cap full. The fruit flies are attracted to the fermenting beer and apparently cannot smell the dish detergent and bleach that will kill them when they land and take a drink.
