What embarrassing memory often keeps you up at night?

I have many, but this is the one keeping me up tonight. I had just started a new job and was making small talk with my coworkers. Someone mentioned being from another state, so I saw my opportunity to ask everyone where they were from. The last person was an Asian woman, and when I asked she narrowed her eyes and gave me an icy “Here.” My face fell, I sputtered “Oh, no, I meant—“ I was panicking, realizing what I said, and how she was taking it. I genuinely expected her to tell me a state/city, I wasn’t trying to figure out her ethnicity. I squeaked out an “I’m sorry” and barely spoke the rest of the shift. She never liked me.
