This question is inspired by a conversation I had recently about how interesting it is to watch language evolve in real time on a platform such as reddit.
The relatively recent examples I used were the secondary (and contradictory) definitions of “literally” and “nonplussed” that have become so popular over the years that they’ve made it into the dictionary, albeit as informal definition.
A couple that I think will follow a similar route within the next century or two are “docile” to mean stupid/gormless and “prodigal” to mean wandering/absent.
I also think that could/would/should of rather than the proper “have/’ve” is popular enough that it will be an accepted alternate form one day.
Anyway! Just curious what y’all think
