I think it’s because they’re trying to show off how much they use their phone. Like they’re trying to say “look how much I use my phone, I must be really popular/cool/important”.
It’s kind of like when people post photos of their food on social media. They’re not just trying to show what they’re eating, they’re trying to show off how much they can afford to eat (or how much they’re willing to spend on food).
