Offer help with whatever you think is needed. It’s often talked about how important it is to be available to people who are depressed, but as someone who’s been there, it’s really hard to ask, even if you know you’ll get help. The depression will tell those who are struggling that, no matter how often you’ve said you’re available any time, you’re just lying to make them feel better, and that reaching out makes you a burden. It’s a lot of work, but forcing your depressed loved ones to refuse help instead of requesting it can do wonders.
