Contrails or vapour trails are the more technical term. Fitting as while water, mostly what they are, is technically a “chemical,” people don’t usually call water as such.
They are seen especially above me because I live en route to a fairly busy airport, and planes fly over my house a lot. They are seen in a lot of places though because there are a lot of planes in the sky.
