U.S. legal professionals of Reddit, what is the reason for sentencing to be several months after a conviction in some cases, as opposed to immediately or soon after conviction?

Today, a man in my hometown was convicted of selling unlicensed military weaponry online. But while he was convicted today, he isn’t scheduled to be sentenced until next March.

Is this simply due to the typical achingly slow workings of the courts, or is there an actual “good” reason?
