To those who always correct grammar over the internet. Why? Who cares?

I don’t do it much anymore, but here’s why I used to: my mum found how one speaks, ones use of grammar, ones diction, ones vocabulary to be very important. She expresses her love through criticism. Doesn’t know it of herself, but it’s how she loves us. So I grew up with ‘it’s pronounced X’ as such a regular, commonplace, non-confrontational occurrence I didn’t realise most families don’t operate like that.

Then I read some good things on how language (perhaps especially our lovely slut of a language English) is fluid and moving and grammar serves a purpose of communication, tools to aid not tools to bind.

So I backed off.

Mind, I still sometimes correct people if they say ‘ alot’ when they mean ‘a lot’. Can’t get over that one!
