UN Women and UNDP came together to launch a transformative initiative: the unveiling of experimental twin indices on gender equality and women’s empowerment. This event marked a pivotal moment in the global pursuit of gender parity, as these innovative indices aim to redefine the measurement and understanding of progress towards gender equality. Through rigorous research and data-driven approaches, these indices shed light on the complex challenges faced by women worldwide and pave the way for targeted interventions and policy reforms.

The event was launched at the Women Deliver Conference in Kigali, Rwanda alongside a wide virtual participation from a global audience.

Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women and Achim Steiner, Under-Secretary General and Administrator of UNDP, opened the event followed by a presentation on the report and the indices by Papa Seck, Chief of Research and Data at UN Women and Yanchun Zhang, Chief Statistician of UNDP. Finally, a panel discussion followed with Greta Bull, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Jamille Bigio, USAID and Fridah Githuku, GROOTS Kenya. Krista Jones Baptista, Executive Director of Data2X also provided virtual remarks.
