UN Data Protection Legal Consultant Jobs in Kenya

The objective of this consultancy work is to evaluate the legal requirements for data protection and IT security in Namibia, as well as provide recommendations for and training about ethical and safe collection, processing, storing and use of personal information of data subjects in the “Just Transitions” project.
Duties and Responsibilities
UN-Habitat The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the lead United Nations agency for cities and human settlements. The agency is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all and sustainable development. The main documents outlining the mandate of the organization are the Vancouver Declaration on Human Settlements, the Habitat Agenda, the Istanbul Declaration on Human Settlements, the Declaration on Cities and Other Human Settlements in the New Millennium, and UN General Assembly Resolution A/56/206. About the United Nations Innovation Technology Accelerator for Cities (UNITAC) The United Nations Innovation Technology Accelerator for Cities is an innovation lab in Hamburg, established in March 2021 through a collaboration between UN-Habitat, the UN Office for Information and Communications Technology (UN-OICT) and HafenCity University. The Accelerator promotes open and participatory governance of data and digital platforms, innovations related to mapping, spatial analysis and data visualization and people centered smart cities. UNITAC Hamburg is funded by the Government of Germany for four years.
Qualifications
Advanced degree in Legal Studies, IT security, International Law, Data Protection or related subjects is required.
A minimum of 5 years of experience providing legal council and/or legal interpretation of Data Protection and IT Security requirements for organisations is required. Experience in a data protection and privacy function in compliance, risk management, legal, information governance, or a related area is required Experience providing legal council and/or consulting to public or private sector organisations in Namibia is required.
Experience delivering training on legal and ethical considerations of data protection and IT security at an organisational level is desirable.
Experience in bootstrapping or supporting a data protection and privacy programme for a global organization or international organization is desirable Experience in designing and implementing data protection and privacy policies, developing and managing data inventories, managing data subject requests and data breaches, conducting data impact assessments, and monitoring of compliance is desirable Strong knowledge of data protection and privacy laws and practices in Namibia and Africa, with a good understanding of other national, regional and international data protection and privacy regulatory frameworks is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
