SoH thematic focus areas are in Health and Nutrition, WASH, Food Security and sustainable livelihoods support, Access to Basic Education, Human Rights, Emergency Relief and Resilience Building through own-implemented and partner implemented projects and programmes. SoH provides emergency relief worldwide and regionally whilst linking relief, rehabilitation and development measures.
The organization’s East Africa Branch (EAB) office is located in Nairobi, Kenya with other offices across the East Africa Region. The primary goal of SoH EAB is to address humanitarian and developmental challenges within East Africa (Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan) while increasing capacity of local structures
Summary of core duties:
Being driver and mechanic for Sign of Hope, mainly in Turkana & Marsabit County and/or within Kenya, the candidate will have the following duties:
Driving and maintaining project vehicle in good mechanical condition, including cleaning inside and outside on a daily basis.
Drive project staff and visitors to outreach sites, meetings and appointments, using due caution and courtesy, as assigned by the supervisor
Initiating and supervising required repairs and routine maintenance of assigned vehicles.
Fulfilling project reporting requirements, including maintaining records on vehicle routing and condition.
Carry out routine mechanical check of the vehicle: cooling system, oil, electrical and brake system, tire pressure etc.
Detect and report malfunctioning of vehicle’s system.
Maintains a current driving license for self and advise the supervisor when the vehicle license is due for renewal, appropriate inspections and registration.
Runs office errands such as message/equipment delivery, picking-up and collecting mail from post office and other errands as assigned by the supervisor.
Loading and offloading goods into/from the vehicle.
Assists with office tasks, such as photocopying, pick up of supplies, delivering or collecting letters, cheques, invoices, etc.
Performs any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Candidate Profile:
Secondary school graduate with over 5years of relevant experience.
Certificate in Vehicle Mechanics: having a Motor Vehicle Auto electrician is an added advantage.
A minimum of three years working with a private organization, holder of certificate in defensive driving.
Training in First aid and safety an added advantage
Good working knowledge of English with ability to understand spoken and written English and Kiswahili well.
Valid BCE driving license with an excellent driving record showing no history of responsibility for accidents.
In possession of a current and valid certificate of good conduct within the year.
Good awareness of the existing traffic rules and regulations under NTSA.
Good knowledge of the counties and its surrounding areas.
Experience must reflect knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. Ability to communicate effectively with informants and contacts from widely-varied organizations and agencies.
Conditions:
Duration of contract: 12 months including probation period of 1 month
Salary according to qualification and experience
