Background:
The International Rescue Committee, one of the world’s largest humanitarian international NGOs, provides relief, rehabilitation and development support to vulnerable people and communities over 30 countries.
We began work in Ethiopia in 2000 in response to severe drought in Ethiopia’s Somali region and are currently providing assistance to Ethiopians and refugees in six regions in Ethiopia, implementing emergency and development programs in health, water and sanitation, economic recovery, and development (ERD), women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.
Position Overview
The Adolescent Girls Programming Officer will be primarily responsible for supporting all aspects of Adolescent Girls programming and overall GBV response Activities in Bur Amino Camp In addition, she is responsible to supports a project designed to equip adolescent girls in Hiloweyn & Bur Amino refugee camp with the skills and experiences necessary to make healthy, strategic life choices as well as promote the safety, prevention and response to violence against adolescent girls.
Major key Responsibilities:
Participate in assessments and contribute to the overall intervention strategy based on feedback received from girls throughout the AG programming.
Monitor & supervise case management, including capacity building through training, mentorship, and on-the-job training of social workers to provide case management. Training topics could be active listening and effective communication, action and safety planning, guiding principles, GBV basic concepts, and other related topics.
Build a relationship with all relevant GBV program stakeholders (health, legal, protection,) in camp and the local community to encourage greater communication, collaboration and coordination among partners from the protection, health, legal, and psychosocial sectors.
Provide response related trainings for the legal, health, protection and psychosocial sectors in collaboration with GBV Prevention Officer.
Set the strategy and agenda for the coordination meetings and ensure minutes are shared with all members of the coordination meetings in a timely manner.
Liaise with stakeholders and GBV Prevention Officer to develop strategy, design exercises, and conduct mentoring exercises with health, police and ARRA protection.
Work with stakeholders to develop and implement standard operating procedures and monitor referral pathway to ensure easy access to all GBV services.
Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and 3 month work plans in a timely manner and incorporate manager feedback.
Design, implement, and monitor group psychosocial activities to build informal support networks among women and girls.
Submit DMS incident recorder on time every month to the CWI Manager. Utilize statistics and ongoing trends to determine program needs.
Develop monthly outreach plan with social workers, based on case trends and ongoing needs of women and girls, include strategies to reach women and girls who are more isolated/have special needs.
Work in collaboration with Prevention Officer to ensure ongoing needs of women and girls in the camp are being met through prevention-related activities.
Collaborate with GBV Prevention Officer to organize awareness raising events, including mass awareness events and ensure response related topics covered in events.
Compile and submit monthly reports in collaboration with GBV Prevention Officer.
Develop and review activity and spending plans for new grants.
Estimate quarterly program purchase requests and monthly cash projections according to the field requirements and submit requests on time.
Monitor budget through documenting and following up on purchase request and reviewing the BvA each month to closely track spending on program lines.
Design, implement, and supervise awareness activities about the Adolescent Girls Program for community outreach.
Schedule for convenient times for adolescent girls to meet in the safe spaces.
Oversee the caregiver discussions series groups!
Train mentors on program content for developing the life skills of adolescent girls and working with caregivers to help them better understand and prioritize the wellbeing of girls in their lives.
Qualifications
First degree with 2 years of experience in Social Work, Sociology, Public Health, Women’s Studies, or any other social science related field. Or diploma with 5 years of experience. 1 years of relevant experience plus post graduate degree.
NGO experience is a plus.
Related work and field experiences in counseling or social service provision with women and adolescent girls.
Knowledge of the local language is a must. (Somali)
Familiarity working in the region is an advantage.
Educational Requirements:
BA in Sociology and Social Work
Preferred Experience & Skills:
Technical and report writing skills.
Computer literate (ability to use MS office, word, excel, and outlook email applications very well
Strong organizational and time -management skills:
Proven ability to prioritize and deliver tasks on time.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner.
