Job Overview
Leading and overseeing the blending team in execution of the blending/ distillation plan and management of the cask maturation process, whilst ensuring that quality and safety standards are met.
Duties and Responsibilities
General Management & Responsibilities:
Management of all operations within Blending, Distillation and Cask Maturation.
Oversee water treatment process and ensure water specifications are attained prior to blending.
Work with the Quality Team in new product development/ innovations.
Evaluate manufacturing equipment for safety, calibrations and functionality.
Ensure calibration and maintenance of blending/ distillation equipment to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
Ensure that all required raw materials/ ingredients materials and consumables are present when required.
Manage stock control transactions with warehouse team.
Must be effective in Blending process management which includes but is not limited to; making efficient tank transfers to accommodate tank space and placing raw material orders in a scheduled manner
Ensure people and resources are applied in an efficient and effective manner to meet delivery
requirements whilst achieving quality and safety standards.
Ensure high standards of housekeeping and 5S are always maintained within the department, with
sustainable solutions rolled across the department.
Prepare for and monitor product changeovers and blending efficiencies.
Develop and improve SOPs for all blending, distillation and cask management activities.
Ensure that team members are trained and follow defined manufacturing procedures.
Ensure that records are maintained for all processes in blending/ distillation/ cask maturation.
Complete all relevant documentation associated with the execution of the blending/ distillation(s) being performed.
Ensure that the escalation procedure for all breakdowns, safety or quality concerns are followed.
Own and drive our culture of “Right First Time and On Time”.
Ensure that non-conforming liquid or ingredients are clearly identified and segregated.
Perform structured root cause analysis, carry out incident, accident and non-conformity investigations with associated reporting and action closure.
Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department.
Monitor, review, and improve manufacturing and quality related activities and drive investigations, corrective and preventative actions.
Proactively seek opportunities to drive improvement throughout blending/ distillation in support of department and site productivity targets to better improve customer service.
Perform duties in such a way as to build an optimum cost-benefit ratio.
Relentlessly seeks, shares and adopts ideas and best practices in and outside the Company and
embraces change introduced by others.
People Management
Coach team members in the correct execution of their tasks (operational and technical).
Communicate team goals and regularly review to ensure team alignment.
Coordinate the activities of personnel to assure production schedules are met.
Ensure that team members understand and adhere to the operational/ quality/ process standards, work instructions, maintenance schedules and performance targets.
Coach and support team members in using the correct problem-solving techniques (such as 5Why, fish bone, One Point Lesson(OPL’s) etc.) to solve situational problems.
Responsible for ensuring a flexible, trained and agile team is fully in place by ensuring that all staff are proficient to support business demand.
Monitor time and attendance and ensure compliance with company procedures.
Motivate workers to enhance production quantity and at the same time maintain high work standards
Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them.
Compliance
Ensure compliance of all blends and distillates to quality specifications and food safety requirements.
Support the Bottling Plant in meeting regulatory obligations required by government bodies, including compliance with environmental, workplace safety, and food hygiene/ safety regulations.
Support all safety, quality and food safety audits and responsible for closure of any corrective action items raised in area.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to consistently and independently follow policies and procedures, instructions, and to meet project timelines.
Knowledgeable of blending equipment which includes but is not limited to; tanks, automatic/volumetric gauges, hoses, pumps, filter presses, and pressure gauges.
Excellent attention to detail – Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
Ability to understand and calculate at a higher-level math (algebraic formulations)
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
Ability to manage a wide variety of activities at the same time (multi-tasking).
Understanding of process control and performance measurements.
Proven ability to apply structured problem-solving methodology to understand root cause and implement solutions.
Excellent time management skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively relate with team members and the
management.
Planning/ Presentation/Organizational skills.
Good industrial relations skills.
Thorough knowledge in local and international legislation and standards relevant to the Bottling Plant.
Knowledge of World Class Manufacturing/ Lean Manufacturing standards.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite to support daily operations.
Knowledge of manufacturing SAP applications.
Knowledge of ISO 9001 for Quality, HACCP- ISO 22000 for food safety, ISO 14001 for Environment &
OHSAS – ISO 18001 Health and Safety standards including any other management systems that may
apply.
Ability to lead by example, gain respect from team and communicate with clarity whilst demonstrating excellence in approach to work and people activities.
Role model of high-performance coaching skills and people management.
Education and Experience
University Degree in Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering, or Science related desired.
Minimum 7-10 years’ experience blending product formulation, distillation and processing.
3-5 years in Management Supervision
Experience of assisting and developing (multi-skilled) people.
Proficient in business computer software such as Excel, Word, Microsoft Office and SAP.
