Job Profile

Christian Health Association of Kenya is seeking to hire an experienced Program Officer to be based in Nairobi supporting Narok, Nyandarua and Nakuru Counties in the CDC- funded CHAP Stawisha project. The project supports HIV/TB/OVC services in faith based and county health facilities across 15 counties in the country, with offices in Meru, Embu, Kitui and Nairobi.

The job holder will be responsible for implementation of program work plans by offering mentorship and guidance to strengthen HIV Prevention, HIV Testing, PrEP, Care and Treatment services, treatment adherence, psychosocial support, gender – based violence prevention and care, and quality improvement approaches.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conduct frequent site visits to program health facilities to provide mentorship, support, and supervision with focus on high impact strategies for improving service delivery.
  • Participate in planning and preparation of relevant tools and guidelines for the project in support service delivery.
  • Organize and facilitate trainings and other capacity strengthening activities for project staff, healthcare workers and implementing partners, as necessary.
  • Conduct data reviews, report writing and participate in project review meetings, proposal development, stakeholder engagement and any other requirements as outlined by CHAK or the donor.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with CDC, Ministry of Health, County Health Management Teams, Implementing partners and other stakeholders.
  • Provide training, mentorship and supervision to health facilities treatment adherence support (TAS) teams and HIV Testing Services (HTS) counsellors on, HIV testing, PrEP , GBV, retention and treatment adherence strategies both in clinic and targeted home-based activities.
  • Provide guidance to health facility HTS counsellors on index testing, targeted HIV testing and assisted Partner Notification Services (aPNS) to improve on positivity yield.
  • Assist health facilities to develop and implement strategies for HIV testing and Linkage, HIV treatment support, GBV prevention, stigma reduction, home-based care, support groups and peer education.
  • Co-ordinate and supervise the health facility treatment and adherence support and HTS teams on adherence monitoring and HIV testing activities at the clinic and at household levels, with appropriate feedback and documentation done in registers and client’s files.
  • Assist with implementation of successful differentiated care models.
  • Coordinate and supervise implementation of continuous quality improvement activities within the PrEP , GBV, treatment adherence support team and HIV testing services.
  • Coordinate client education sessions including treatment preparation sessions, treatment preparation for second line regimen switch and other ongoing counselling sessions within the facility.
  • Formulates key client adherence and HIV testing messages.
  • Help prepare PrEP, GBV, TAS and HTS reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing results and trends.
  • Submit timely reports of activities to the Regional Lead and Senior Technical Advisor
  • Improve and ensure quality outcomes by studying, evaluating, and re-designing treatment support procedures and patient progress; recommend changes and develop innovations in clients’ follow-up in consultation with the CHAP Stawisha TA team.
  • Any other lawful duties as assigned by the supervisor that is within the scope and nature of the position.

    Qualifications

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery or Bachelor’s degree in clinical medicine/ Nursing
  • Master’s degree in a relevant health-related field will be an added advantage.
  • At least five (5) years of HIV program implementation experience is required.
  • Registration with the relevant professional bodies and an active practice license.
  • Should have training in HIV/AIDS, TB comprehensive care and support, preferably a trainer of trainers in HIV management.
  • Advanced training in antiretroviral management is an added advantage
  • Good understanding of HIV/AIDS clinical care and antiretroviral therapy (ART), including patient-centered management and family support.
  • Excellent management abilities within a multi-disciplinary team, with capability to support, train, and mentor others.
  • Understanding of the Kenya Health system and experience working with government institutions, counties, and local partners.
  • multiple tasks with keen attention to detail and capability to follow through and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good use of MS Office packages and office automation solutions
