Asian Development Bank (ADB) is currently seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Senior Economist /Principal Economist in Manila, Philippines. The duration of this post is 3 years.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Senior Economist /Principal Economist  will perform the following functions-

  • As the leading Economist for the Pacific:
    • Work on economic issues in the Pacific.
    • Lead the team of Pacific country economists, ensures the quality of their work, and strengthens their capacity, including by being a mentor.
    • Lead, contribute, and provide support to country and regional macroeconomic analyses.
  • As the Country Economist for the north Pacific:
    • Lead the design and implementation of TA to support policy dialogue and recommendations on macroeconomic management and structural reform issues.
    • Lead economic, sector, and thematic work for the Pacific country offices in the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, and Palau as part of the preparation for country programming, macroeconomic management-related studies, and periodic reports on the economy and specific issues as required (e.g., periodic economic reports and briefing materials for ADB Management and Board).
    • Lead the assessment of macroeconomic, social, and sectoral developments in the north Pacific DMCs for the development of strategies and operations, including policy based programs, institutional improvements, and investment projects.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • Master’s Degree in Economics or other related fields (Ph.D. an advantage).
  • At least 10 year’s relevant professional experience in macroeconomic or sector policy formulation, macroeconomic analysis, project economic and financial analysis, or related area.
  • International experience working in development in several countries.
  • Experience working in small developing island states would be an advantage.
  • Thorough understanding of ADB’s policies and procedures for work programming and knowledge management is desired.
  • Strong analytical, coordination, organization, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
