Asian Development Bank (ADB) is currently seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Principal Natural Resources and Agriculture Economist in Manila, Philippines. The duration of this post is 3 years.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Principal Natural Resources and Agriculture Economist will perform the following functions-

  • Lead the development of ADB’s sector policy and strategies on agriculture and food security to maximize its development impacts on building sustainable and resilient food systems in Asia and the Pacific, in coordination and cooperation with other sector/thematic groups, regional departments and development partners.
  • Lead the medium-long term foresight exercise on agriculture and food security in Asia and the Pacific to identify future risks of food security and the strategic directions of ADB’s support at both regional and country levels.
  • Lead ADB’s economic and policy analysis on agriculture and food security, engaging developing member country (DMC) governments in policy dialogue to develop sector policy and strategies to build sustainable and resilient food systems, and to identify ADB’s strategic areas of support to maximize the development impacts, in coordination and cooperation with Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department.
  • Lead the country level review of agriculture sector policies, legal and regulatory framework, and provide policy recommendations to DMC government and identify the strategic areas of ADB’s support on achieving long-term food security, in coordination and cooperation with regional departments, resident missions and development partners.
  • Provide expert support to designing and implementing ADB’s loans, technical assistance (TA) projects, and non-lending products and services in agriculture, and food security.
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation framework to systematically assess the development impact of the ADB’s support in agriculture and food security and draw lessons for future project design.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • Post-graduate Degree (preferably Doctorate degree), or equivalent, in agricultural economics, natural resource management, natural resource economics, rural development, or other related fields.
  • University Degree in agriculture, natural resource management, natural resource economics, rural financing, rural development, or other related fields, combined with specialized experience in similar organization/s, may be considered in lieu of a Master’s Degree.
  • At least 12 year’s relevant professional experience in sustainable agriculture including food security, natural resources management, agricultural policy, and rural development.
  • International experience working in development in several countries.
  • Excellent leadership qualities and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
