People who have asked their friends out on a date, how did that go? Are you still dating?

I had a best friend in high school (both girls). One day, completely out of the blue, she told me she was in love with me and asked me out. It honestly was a complete shock, I didn’t even know she liked girls. I didn’t return the feelings and our friendship just corroded from there. There was jealousy and the struggle of a healthy emotional balance in our friendship. It really sucked because she really was my best friend that I could turn to for everything but it just was never the same after.
