People that are afraid of dogs, why?

For added context, I have an aunt that is deathly afraid of dogs. Even puppies. She wanted to kick one of ours that was just a few weeks old bc it got too close. I understand you can’t always trust the owners word and that they bite but what about the dogs that are friendly? Dogs can be very well trusted and mine are just huge babies!
