It depends. A zoo where I live has animals that can’t be returned to the wild, like animals with limited mobility or ones born captive. They seem to put a lot of time and research into making the animal’s lives as good as they can. I think that’s an excellent effort. It gets people involved with animals too, I think people and especially children form connections with animals by seeing them, which can lead to greater interest and effort from people in conservation.
I think SeaWorld type practices of taking from the wild and abusing the animals are horrific.
