NCBA Bank Head, IT Infrastructure Jobs in Kenya
Job Purpose Statement
Responsible for providing the strategic direction for the infrastructure function on an enterprise
level. Assesses the relative impact of IT industry trends to current and future enterprise infrastructure needs and projects. Interfaces with business unit heads and other IT functional area
s to define infrastructure support initiatives and solutions for improving service efficiency and
effectiveness.
Leads the development of infrastructure strategy, architecture, service delivery standards and
procedures for the enterprise. Participates in IT strategy planning activities, bringing a current
knowledge and future vision of infrastructure technology and systems and best practices (e.g.,
ITIL) as related to the needs of the business.
Proactively researches and re commends courses of
action to prevent problems and to maintain high infrastructure service levels for the user
community. Analyses and predicts trends and develops long – range plan designed to maintain
cost effectiveness and competitiveness of the enterprise’s IT infrastructure.
Establishes metrics, key performance indicators and service level agreements for driving the
performance of IT service delivery. Responsible for the IT service delivery management of servers,
networks, e-mail, directory Collaboration/telecommunications and other technology platforms shared across the enterprise.
Prepare plans for development and installation of Data Centre according to present and future
requirements and ensures compliance to Data Center standards and systems. To ensure adherence to all established guidelines and management practices on Group Data Centers and coordinate with various departments and perform integration of critical systems into infrastructure.
In liaison with Data center hosting providers to enhancement and develop strategies to ensure
achievement of data center capacity, procedures associated with assets and capacity.
Key Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)
Network Infrastructure Strategy
Development of an effective Networking and telecommunication strategy in line with the Business Strategy.
Analyses plans, designs and implements network projects in accordance with Bank’s requirements; Reviews IT infrastructure policies regularly to ensure compliance with guidelines
Build a Network architectural framework that is applicable throughout the organization.
Evaluation and selection of new Networking technology to support new products and services for the Bank.
Direct and supervises the work of personnel and /or contractors assigned to the department, in terms of network equipment and software installation, systems support and maintenance and
organizes prompt network support by assigning the available technical resources while exercising quality assurance functions;
Data Centre Strategy
Directs and optimizes all the operation of servers, networks and Collaboration systems. Provides timely, accurate, and consistent
technical infrastructure service and presentation to internal and external clients.
Coordinates with other teams to identify and implement new systems to support business function at effective cost. Manages a Departmental sub- function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets, policies and procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
Systems Administrations and Operation
Management and control of the server farm and Office Automation operations Specification, selection, and procurement of servers and office
automation software
Provides support to group workstations
Administering and configuring servers and virtualization systems on the Private cloud with Microsoft Hyper -V hosts, VMware and Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager.
Provide management and oversight for IT infrastructure including System Engineering and Systems Administration operations and maintenance as well as development of new IT Cloud initiatives.
Reviews systems configuration and plans cost-effective upgrades to keep up with changing technology, growth of bank, and needs
of banks components;
Monitor System Capacity and Performance to ensure optimum efficiency.
Develop, Maintain and Review SLA’s with external vendors that provide the Bank with solutions and ensure that they can deliver the SLA the Bank has agreed with.
Specification and selection of hardware, telecommunications equipment and software
Protect and enhance the life of IT assets of the Bank, including hardware maintenance, management and Support
Systems Security
Analyses plans, designs and implements systems security policies and controls in accordance with Bank’s requirements
Build a systems security architectural framework that is applicable throughout the organization for Both Server farm and the network
Reviews systems security configuration and plans cost -effective upgrades to keep up with changing technology, growth of bank, and needs of banks components;
Business Continuity Planning
Assist in the development of a Business Continuity Plan for the IT operations of the bank.
Provide and execute detailed Disaster recovery plans Network,
Servers and other Office Automation systems
Liaison with telecoms bodies for deployment of the BCP
Liaison with other IT Head and internal business units for maintenance and deployment of the BCP.
Out-Sourced Support Services
Manage a team of outsourced Support vendors based on both head office as well as regional offices for support of the banks hardware platform
Work closely with vendors to ensure an up to date inventory of Banks equipment is kept and maintained
Coordinate and work closely with the bank’s Property administration and ensure proper storage and disposal of IT equipment after they are declared obsolete.
Ideal Job Specifications
Academic :
University degree in Information technology/Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/T telecommunications. Master’s degree would be an added advantage.

Leadership/coaching/management trainings
Training and certification in IT Service Management e.g. ITIL, Enterprise Operating System administration e.g. MCSE, Network related certification e.g. CCNA, Security related Certification etc.
Business Continuity training
Project Management Skills -PRINCE2, PMP
Desired work experience:
Ten years’ experience in Infrastructure support in medium to large organizations and or banking or Financial service organization would be an added advantage
Five years in supervisory role
