Experience and Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Accounting or studying towards a BCom Accounting degree
  • 1 – 2 years’ experience in financial accounting within a trust and treasury environment or a similar role in a professional service environment
  • Knowledge of the Legal Practice Act and Legal Practice Rules as well as online banking systems
  • Experience in foreign currency transactions beneficial
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Office

    Note: This position will require flexibility in working hours. It is also expected that the person will work some overtime from time to time as the need arises.

    Job Accountabilities:

  • Process investment transactions (opening and closing of investments) with correct supporting documentation), accurately and timeously in accordance with trust checklists and in compliance with Legal Practice Act and Legal Practice Rules
  • When dealing with investments accounts ensure that the Legal Practice Act and Legal Practice Rules, FICA, and FATCA are adhered to
  • Replying to inward foreign funds received – ZAR and trading
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations done accurately and timeously at month-end
  • Ensure daily manual reconciliations are done accurately and balance daily
  • Processing of daily attorney trust and bank transactions (local and foreign), accurately and timeously in accordance with Legal Practice Act and Legal Practice Rules.
  • Prepare and send an outstanding list of trust receipts daily to directors and staff for identification and allocation. Capture trust receipts per the allocation.
  • Provide trust-related information to auditors timeously, as, and when required
  • Capture and process trust transfers accurately and timeously in accordance with trust checklists and in compliance with Legal Practice Act and Legal Practice Rules
  • Ensure client authorization is obtained for all trust transfers, where funds are to be moved to a retainer
  • Ensure S86(2), S86(3) and S86(4) interest is correctly accounted for, paid over to the LPC/LPFF in compliance with Legal Practice Act and Legal Practice Rules (manual and automatic sweeping by bank) for all local and foreign trust accounts, and reconciliation done monthly.
  • Ensure that all investments reconcile to bank statements
  • Monitor unidentified/unallocated business and trust receipts
  • Ensure payment of unclaimed funds to the LPFF, accurately and timeously in accordance with Legal Practice Act and Legal Practice Rules. Ensure timeous response to all trust queries received internally and externally
  • Support the business as and when adhoc financial request come in and provide information that is accurate, of a high standard and delivered within required timeframes
  • Assist with designated and identified projects and initiatives
  • Purchasing forex – liaise with service provider to purchase forex for directors and staff traveling overseas after ensuring that all necessary documentation has been provided
  • Ensure that all debtor receipts (local and foreign) are captured accurately daily and any trust-related funds are moved to the trust account in accordance with Legal Practice Act and Legal Practice Rules
  • Capture reversals and write-offs as and when they arise
  • Capture local and foreign payments accurately and timeously on the banking system, before submitting them to financial managers for verification and directors for releasing daily
