Purpose of Job
Oversee planning, scheduling and execution of logistics activities to meet customer (internal and external) requirements
Manage a team of logistics analysts responsible for executing shipments, SAP logistics transactions and completing and maintaining shipping documentation
Ensure all shipping activities are completed safely and in an environmentally friendly manner
Responsible for managing 3PL vendor contracts to ensure performance and safety targets as well as contractual obligations are met
Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities
Oversees a team of specialists and analysts that plan and execute logistics activities for inbound and outbound plant product movements
Create structure and processes to effectively execute plant shipments. Develop metrics that continuously drive shipment performance improvements
Work with plant, Customer Fulfillment and business teams to ensure logistics services meet customer requirements. Provide updated transportation costs to internal Sasol stakeholders for cash forecast updates and sales price calculations
Manage transportation service providers to ensure they meet safety, service and delivery performance targets while optimizing logistic costs
Prepare Logistics department budget / re-forecasts as requested by Finance, and operate within approved funding levels. Assure invoices received are accurate and processed timely for payment
Analyze all SHE incidents and order execution failures under area of responsibility to identify root causes of service failures and implement solutions to prevent recurrence. Responsible for reporting all transportation KPIs
Monitor and maintain transportation data integrity on Sasol’s ERP system. Work with IM on projects and any issues with 3PL and other vendors with data integration
Represent and coordinate internal and external audits for Rail &Truck logistics including responses to audit findings
Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with service providers (freight, equipment and services) to ensure they meet safety, service and delivery performance targets as per contractual obligations while optimizing logistic costs
Formal Education
High School / School Diploma or similar with 20+ years in plant operations or
University Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years in distribution or related business experience
Working Experience
5+ years of Supervisory experience
Experience with logistics operations, equipment and regulatory requirements.
Requires negotiation, interpersonal and analytical skills to optimize costs while achieving service standards
Required Personal/Professional Skills
Strong computer skills (i.e. Microsoft products- excel, word, SAP
Strong organization, written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical background with ability to think strategically, solve problems quickly and effectively
