Purpose of Job
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will apply Asset Management principles to enable the safe and cost effective utilisation of rotating assets throughout the equipment life cycle. Asset Management is inclusive of maintenance and production management to ensure equipment is safe, available and reliable to perform its function.
This will promote the utilisation of effective and efficient reliability practices and the asset management process model. Ensuring operations is competent in the reliability practices through training, facilitation, and coaching.

Business Results
The senior mechanical engineer requires a good understanding of reliability engineering processes and rotating equipment and be able to apply it on equipment level. These processes includes:
The maintenance and optimisation of rotating equipment that includes pumps, compressors and turbines.
Health and condition monitoring of rotating equipment.
Equipment Maintenance Strategy development and implementation through the application of Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
Deviation Management and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) inclusive of quality reporting of the outcomes and health of the management system
Reliability Performance Tools & Techniques (RPTT) which relates to the use of SAP functionality and sources of data to be used in reliability, failure and data analysis as well as the reporting of bad actor equipment.
Integrity Studies to identify the causes of bad actor rotating equipment and recommend possible solutions to improve performance
Integrate the outcome of Operate within Agreed Parameter (OWAP) monitoring initiatives by all engineering disciplines in support of managing the risk of equipment failure.
Perform inherent risk analysis on equipment.
Assist with the justification critical spares holding as well as assessing optimal maintenance interventions through life-cycle costing (LCC) analysis.
Develop improvement plans and assist the rotating department with renewal plans and projects.
Leadership and Values
Understand the asset management process model (operations core processes) and its application in the relevant operating department.
Utilise reliability engineering practices in the relevant rotating department.
Contribute to reliability engineering reports (reviews) at agreed intervals after thorough analysis (utilising various data sources) that gives clear guidance on focus areas for the improvement of plant reliability.
Be the proponent of reliability business processes, procedures, work instructions and practices in the relevant operating department.
Relationships, Teamwork and Collaboration
Ensure that processes governed by reliability and rotating engineering are understood by all role players in the relevant operating department
Support the relevant personnel in the operations departments to obtain the necessary competence in reliability practices through training and coaching
Contribute to the prioritisation of improvement activities and projects within the operations department based on the potential benefits in OEE improvements
Track the health of reliability governance processes in operations department and support proper application of such governance
Ensure that reliability metrics are established, optimsed and the trends reported on to drive the continuous improvement of sustainable operations
Track and report on critical next steps from incident investigations of significant operations impact.
Formal Education
B.Eng. /B.Sc. Eng. Mechanical
Min Experience
Prefer 8 years’ experience, however minimum of 7 years’ with specific experience/performance or with a relevant Master’s Degree
Exposure to rotating equipment, plant maintenance, equipment failure investigations, strategy development, training and development.
