UN-HABITAT Senior Statistics Assistant Jobs in Kenya

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
The position is in the Data and Analytics Section of the Knowledge & Innovation Branch of UN-Habitat in the External Relations, Strategy, Knowledge, and Innovation Division of UN-Habitat (ERSKI).
ERSKI is responsible for strategic planning, programmatic direction, and operationalization of UN-Habitat’s focal point role for the New Urban Agenda, and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the UN system and for coordination of Emergency Programmes.
The Knowledge and Innovation Branch is responsible for the development of policies and procedures on results-based management and coordinates the preparation of the strategic plan, programme and budget plans and monitors and reports on global agendas and policy implementation; it leads and facilitates an enabling environment for use and deployment of innovation and data.
The Data and Analytics Section is responsible to lead and coordinate the data pillar for the development and monitoring of a United Nations system-wide strategy on urbanization; leading mainstreaming of data and monitoring support to countries and cities to develop the Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), Voluntary Local Reviews (VLR) in line with the NUA and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; coordinate UN-Habitat’s participation and representation in UN Statistical Commission, Interagency Expert Group on SDGs Indicators (IAEG-SDGs), UN geospatial network-UNGGIM, Regional SDGs review forums and other global and regional Inter-agency Expert standing committees on statistics and data related issues.
Under the direct supervision by Chief of the Data and Analytics Unit, the incumbent will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
Responsibilities
Collects, evaluates, processes, and analyzes statistical data from a variety of sources.
Processes, classifies and ensures internal consistency of data; reconciles discrepancies in data series.
Builds special data sets for specific research needs or for reports.
Prepares charts, graphs and other outputs for reporting and presentation of various data.
Applies, tests and executes programmers for specific statistical applications on the basis of specifications provided.
Maintains relevant computerized databases.
Responds to internal/external requests on questions related to specific programme(s).
Assists in liaising with United Nations system organizations to obtain necessary statistical and other relevant information.
Prepares data sets upon request, responds to queries/requests and maintains/updates web pages and collects, evaluates, processes and analyzes statistical data from household surveys and other sources.
Supervises and guides other general service staff in the function.
Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Education
Completion of High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A technical or vocational certificate in data management and/or analysis is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in statistics, economics, finance, accounting or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to eight (8) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in statistical analysis, data analysis, data processing is required.
Experience working with word processing, spreadsheets, and relevant software packages is desirable.
A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in writing or developing reports for senior management reviews is desirable.
A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in database management using a statistical or other software is desirable.
A minimum of one (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an desirable.
